Herb Gardens

Herbs are nature’s way of adding not only amazing flavour to your food, but also valuable minerals and nutrients and growing them is surprisingly easy.

Herbs are beautiful and when flowering, bring the world of spring to your home.  Just look at the bright pink flowers of the echinacea plant, or the dainty blue flowers of the rosemary.  Some herbs are doubly productive when seeding, as seeds and buds offer unique flavours.  Compare the variety in the dill seed to the delicate leaves, or earthy coriander seeds to the richly aromatic coriander leaf and root.

Turn ordinary food into a culinary delight. Make pizza’s gourmet by simply adding some fresh oregano or basil.  Enrich your fish with basil, dill or parsley... each herb with its own unique flavour and cuisine type. We all know how important rosemary is to a good old fashioned roast lamb.  Impress your friends by using stalks of rosemary dipped in olive oil to baste your chops and vegetables on the BBQ!

Medicinal teas can also be made with mint, chamomile or lemon verbena to name just a few. Dry or freeze excess herbs for an ongoing supply as the seasons change.

If you have a vegetable garden as well, certain herbs are great companions and could ward off pests from your valuable produce.  Funny how such a companion in the garden makes a delicious combination on the plate too!

Herbs are also beautiful to plant along or amongst pathways where the delicate scent is released as you brush past.

You have an endless choice of flavours and cuisine styles with just a few (or many) herbs in your back yard. Try Pizza herb gardens growing all fresh ingredients for your next pizza or a Stir Fry garden with all the ingredients growing together conveniently.

Suburban Farmer provides many herb varieties for mixing through vegetable gardens or for specialised herb gardens. Contact us for more details.
