Often our only choice is produce that has already been in cold storage for weeks or months, travelled across the country or been imported from overseas. Many types of shop bought fruit and vegetables are picked when unripe, with synthetic fertilisers, herbicides and pesticides used in their growing.

However we do have a choice. 

Grow your own vegetables and you will always know what you are feeding your family.  The produce you pick is packed full of nutrients because you have picked it at its prime.  The only travel you need to worry about is a few metres to your kitchen counter. 

Reduce waste, as you only pick what you need right then. 

Save water, typical shop bought produce uses up to five times the amount of water to produce vegetables, compared with growing the same amount of your own.

How much do I need?
To calculate the amount of soil conditioner you need, simply measure (in meters) your vegetable plot then multiply:

Length x Width x Height

The result is the soil volume in cubic metres.
Hint: The roots of most vegetable plants are quite shallow and a soil depth of 50cm is enough to grow a broad range of vegetables.

How to use premium soil conditioner:
The premium grade soil conditioner can be used by itself as a rich organic soil, mixed into your existing soil or as mulch for vegetable beds and fruiting trees. Extra soil fertility can be achieved by mixing manures into the soil.
Excellent for rejuvenating old vegetable beds and no need to dig it in, just layer on top as a mulch.

The compost is mature and stable and will not degrade rapidly.

In the short-term, use of compost or provides a number of benefits, including:

• Increased water retention and penetration (less watering!)
• A reduced need to added fertilisers and trace elements
• Improved resistance of plants to disease
